Solutions

Expert Solution

a) highly supportive, somewhat supportive or not at all supportive clearly, there is an order to the variable as highly supportive >  somewhat supportive >  not at all supportive, therefore this is not a nominal variable as there is an order to it. As it is also not a numerical variable, it cannot be an interval - ratio variable. Therefore this is an ordinal variable.

b) Number of handguns owned is a numerical variable, also the number of handguns is countable and the difference between similar length intervals mean same thing here for example difference between 4 and 2 handguns is same as that between 6 and 4. Therefore this is an interval ratio variable.

c) There is a clear order of the week we know of, but the order is not linear, monday comes after sunday but sunday comes after saturday which in turn comes after monday. Therefore as there is no order to it and it is categorical, it is a nominal variable.
