The adaptations which makes the polar bears successful in the
environment that they live in are listed below:-
BEHAVIOURAL ADAPTATIONS
- Polar bears are solitary animals and spend most of their lives
alone.
- Polar bears use the body fat during hibernation and can also
use it during conditions of food scarcity.
- Polar bears exhibit some type of aggression to protect their
cubs or food and to compete for females.
- The mode of communication is typically vocalization and sign
language.
- Their cubs are born in den, protected from harsh weather
outside. Therefore, they're healthy and have better survival
chances.
PHYSIOLOGICAL ADAPTATIONS
- Polar bear's body possess fur and thick fat that keeps them
warm in cold weather and enables them to swim in cold water.
- Presence of large claws and strong teeth to tear the skin and
meat of their prey.
- They have a strong sense of smell that helps them find food
easily.
- They save energy by hibernating during the winter season and
use the stored body fat as a source of energy during
hibernation.
- The fur is white in color that helps them to camouflage with
the surroundings. This keeps them protected from the
predators.
