Select one qualitative and one quantitative question that you are interested in investigating. Identify the independent and dependent variables. Next, create a hypothesis or set of hypotheses to go along with your research question. Identify your hypothesis as one of each of the four categories below and explain why your hypothesis fits into these categories.
Associative or causal
Simple or complex
Nondirectional vs. directional
Null vs. research
Quantitative question:
How does the stress in work affects the family life of staff nureses ?
Dependent variable- stress in work
Independent variable- family life of staff nurses
Hypothesis - There is no signficant relationship between the stress in work and the family life of staff nurses.
● This is a null hypothesis .(Null vs research hypothesis) It is said because the null hypothesis states that there is no relationship / no significant relations etc... it says that the variables are not having affects on each other .
Qualitative question:
What are the experiences of staff nurses those are working in night shift and day shift.?
Dependent variables: experiences of staff nurses
Independent variables- working in night shift
Hypothesis- Staff nurses working in night shifts will have higher experiences than day duty shifts.
● It is a directional type of hypothesis. ( directional vs non directional hypothesis)
It is said because the prediction about the expected outcome is made by the researcher in the hypothesis
