why do forensic psychologists act as an expert witness?
Forensic Psychology has a link between psychology and justice system . It is assigned to an expert with rich experience in their respective field of study . In case of justice system , i.e. court rooms , expert witness are present . In court rooms , interacting with judges , attorneys , requires a high level of experience and reputation in their specific field of study . In USA, the degree and level of insanity varies form one state to another.
Hence , the knowledge also differs . The expert witness needs to well versed with the types of law and their degree of punishments. Eg : Workplace discrimination .
The need to test the required argument is what they are assigned for . Providing evidence to the argument , to justify their argument , etc.
The questions asked in a court room are generally law based. They are not based on psychological questions. They are asked in order to consult whether the person will be given death sentence or not , should the victim go through any kind of medical treatment or not . etc.
