1. Describe, using as many examples as you can, how photosynthesis and cellular respiration are linked.
2. Describe the links between the cell cycle, it's control mechanisms, mutations and the development of cancer.
1. Explanation:
Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are linked:
The concept of living is possible only because of plants as they are the source for eveything. This concept also implies the importance of air, which also is got from plants. The relationship between humans and plants is fulfilled by two processes. They are Photosynthesis and cellular respiration. The product got from plants by photosynthesis is used by humans as a reactant. Oxygen is the product got from plants during photosynthesis and it is eventually used up by cells to perform cellular respiration.
C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O
Glucose + Oxygen = Carbondioxide + Water. This comprises of the Cellular respiration. Here, the sugar molecule glucose combines with oxygen which is a by product of photosynthesis to produce water with a release of carbondioxide. Respiration requires oxygen for cells and it releases carbondioxide.
6CO2 + 6H2O = C6H12O6 + 6O2
Carbondioxide + Water = Glucose + Oxygen. This fulfills the Photosynthesis reaction, where the water molecule combines with carbondioxide to form glucose and oxygen for respiration. Photosynthesis needs carbodioxide for its respiration and hence releases oxygen as a product.
The oxygen that is released by the plants during photosynthesis is used up by humans and animals to breathe. It is also carried out by the blood to the cells to perform its function. The glucose produced from photosynthesis is used to generate ATP by cells. Hence the photosynthesis and cellular respiration are interlinked.
