Expert Solution

Cellular respiration

Cellular respiration in plants are the process through which they produce carbon dioxide and ATP. They consume glucose and oxygen to produce co2 and ATP.

1. In cellular respiration the oxygen is consumed for production of co2 and ATP. These oxygen are the biproducts of photosynthesis.

2.no water molecules get splitted in cellular respiration. Water molecules get splitted in photosynthesis inorder to produce oxygen. In cellular respiration water molecules are formed by reaction between oxygen and hydrogen atoms occurs in electron transport chain.

3. Electrons are passed through electron transport chain. These electron transport chain are very imprtimpo in aerobic( involves O2) respiration. High energy electrons are transport from one carrier to another carrier in electron transport chain. These electron chain transport system have 4 protein complexes which helps in electron transport.

4. Protons are pumped across inner mitochondrial membrane. In electron transport chain system electrons are transferred across carriers. These helps in production of ATP from ADP and phosphate group. These ATP helps in movement of protons (H+) access inner mitochondrial membrane. Complex1 of electron transport chain system help in creating a proton gradient system by pumping H+ ions across inner mitochondrial membrane.

5. There is a negative free energy change. Free energy change in a system is represented by Delta G. If Delta G is negative it is know as exergonic reaction. That means initial state have more free energy rather than the final stage. Endergonic reaction are those (delta G is positive) initial state have less energy and final state have more free energy. Cellular respiration is an exergonic type reaction.

6. In cellular respiration redox reaction are aided by enzymes. Redox reaction are those chemical reaction in which both oxidation and reduction reaction takes place. In cellular respiration enzymes helps in the movement of electrons which leads to redox reaction.
