Expert Solution

Criminal Justice System , is a series of government agencies whose goal is to get hold of the law breaker and to punish them . Lawyers, prosecutions, police , etc are the primary institutions of criminal justice system.

According a report , it was published that from 1970's onward there was a rise in male punishments as compared to the female ones. But as it was also noticed that females criminal were rising at par with male criminals .

It was seen that , the male criminals were given long term sentence. If that was the case , males and females should be treated equally . But that was not the case . Female criminals were arrested but they were not given longer punishments . Though they were arrested , but they were not found guilty as were the male ones. Women's appearance , behaviour , helped them in protecting themselves.

In today's society , as there was an existence of a stereotype that women do not belong to prison . As physiologically , it was believed that women were weaker to men . Women have an instinct of motherly nature and hence they were very much needed for the nourishment and nurtutring a child .

But talking from a male's criminal side , this was not the case. None of the factors played a role in thier case.

Eg A lady having an innocent face with those of sympathetic looks , will not be punished . As because , ladies are not meant for prisons . They are small defensive creature .

However , law stands in favour of women. Talking from the point of 'defending mechanism' , men used to hurt others in the prison in order to send a message to their families , meanwhile the female ones uses tactics and mind games in order to be resourceful.

Women used to commit sins such as robbery , found in a drunk position , drunk while driving etc .were to be less serious crimes . These acts , do have a punishment, which do lands them in a prison . But that too for a shorter span of time.

But this is evolving over a period of time . Males and females should be given equal respect and equal chance . This should be imparted in every aspects of our society .
