According to utilitarian ethics, an act would be considered ethical if it maximizes benefits to maximum number of people and reduce any harm. This would mean that bullying would reduce happiness and increase psychological, physical, emotional pain to the one bullied. Secondly, it would mean that the person bullying is going beyond the human nature of empathy and compassion to the animal nature of violence and apathy. This would mean that those who engage in bullying may become the future criminals by all means. Thirdly, bullying would prevent one to enjoy and experience one’s environment as it is because of those who bully around one. This would mean that one’s freedom, autonomy and rights are affected to a great extent which is wrong. Finally, when there are more people bullying others, it only shows that these people do not have a proper family environment and that there is no help from the society. Just as virtue ethics suggests that good people wouldn’t engage in vicious actions, these people are trying to be more vicious to others because of their character which needs to be taken care of.
