Solutions

Expert Solution

Two systems have interplay when decisions are made, the first system is our emotional response system that immediately sprang into action whenever there is a decision to be made. The second system is our rational or critical thinking that evaluates the aspects of decision making and slow down the decision making process. We tend to make decisions on our emotional response as it saves our energy and time, as crtical thinking requires time and energy. So to keep emotions out of important decision making we should:

  • Pause and evaluate the situation- that is think about the immediate and long term impacts of the decision, to weight the options so that we do not retract in the future.
  • Should avoid decision making when we feel burnout, stressed and confused because emotions dominate the decision made in these circumstances.
  • Instead of relying on the gut or intuition we should go through the pros and cons of our decision.

Thus, we can keep out emotion out of important decision making.

The decisions that close to our personal values or personal life that is to which we are emotionally attached it is important to weigh such decisions on our emotional scale. For example: While choosing the right house, we should choose practically that is a house that fits in to the financial budget and comfort but also our emotions, does that house make us feel home.
