Meaning of Organizational Change:

It is said to be the alteration or the new structuring of the way an organization is .It could be a change in structure, people or even policies of a firm and it could be either an external change or an internal change.

The fact is :where there is a change, there would be a resistance to that change.

Meaning of resistance to change:

It represents the dislike showed by the individual towards the proposed change and hence would undertake various actions in stopping the change as they felt that change could do something bad unhealthy for them( a threat). In other words, resistance to change is the act of refraining done by the employees towards a change by showing disapproval to it.

Reason for resistance to change:

  • Everyone likes to sit in their comfort zone they were used to be in.Hence, a change in it can create some psychological issues in them.
  • Changes would bring some kind of risks if the person is too sensitive to handling instability. Hence they reject it.
  • Alteration in what they are doing for a long time is another reason why people resist the change.

Coming to the question:

It is of course going to be the psychological resistance to change in this matter where here would be the addition of staffs in the company. The psychological resistance happens due to the mental factors like fearing the unknown matter, fearing the changes happening in the management etc.

Here the reason of resistance may be due to many reasons like fear of:

  • losing their priority when new people arrives.
  • Alteration in duties and activities they used to do
  • rejection from job
  • cutting short of salary

Solutions for resisting the change:

Firstly, the role of management and employers in making the employees feel safe during adopting a change is really huge.It all depends on how the management conveys the change to their employees. Some of the techniques they can adopt are:

  • Make the employees understand that the change they are going to propose would never backfire them and instead can make them more strong and reliable(here, the addition of new staffs can in one way reduce their job pressure).
  • Step by step change implementation is far better than a sudden implementation.
  • A change management training should be given to every employee where they can clearly understand what they are actually going through.
  • Conduct a session where the employees can openly open up their minds regarding their fear of change and then answer them wisely.
  • Understand the root cause of change and then focus on clearing the negative side of it to the employees.
  • Show and make them understand the future benefits of implementing the change in the organization.

Therefore, by using the proper change management strategies, the management can properly bring a change to their organization without hurting the feelings of the employees.

Hence the answer
