Expert Solution

Although there are multiple sociological theories that explain poor and poverty, I think some people are poor because they were oppressed and suppressed for a long period of time in history and they were given limited opportunity to thrive but branded as inferior beings by some who unleashed cruelty in the name of race, color, class, caste, religion etc. Some people are poor today, due to their inability to use the opportunities present today. They either blame the past and get indulged in some unwanted activities such as drugs, sex or other crimes.

Poverty is measured in differernt ways by different countries depending on their economic strength. In the USA, poverty does exist. There are plenty of homless, foodless and abandoned people in the USA. Most of the wealth is controlled by the elite 10% while the bottom 10% work hard to meet both the ends meet.

In order to abolish poverty, education should be equal across the country that would provide same curriculum and training to people of different backgrounds because it's one major area that later comes in when one looks for a job. The racial, class and color discriminations should be kept away and more opportunity should be given to people who were neglected so far thus making things even. America is a capitalistic country that emphasises more on the individual freedom and prosperity but it may be the time that it rivises its policies thus including everyone thus giving them enough employment and economic opportunities that would eventually eradicate poverty.
