Answer.
The rational part of human brain does not fully develop until around the age of 25. The prefrontal cortex is considered as the rational part of the brain. It plays a major role in controlling one's impulses, decision making, planning for the future, etc.
Amygdala is performing functions of the emotional part. And prefrontal cortex is more associated with decision making. The teen's process of thinking and information is happening with the amygdala. we know that teens are overwhelmed by emotions and impulsive decisions. The development of the amygdala and prefrontal cortex are not in the same range. Therefore, the studies are confirmed that the development of the brain is from back to front pattern. This is why the prefrontal cortex develops last.
Hence, experiences play a greater role in the development of the prefrontal cortex. The prefrontal cortex also plays a huge role in one's personality development. When teens experience challenges and incidents may lead them to mature faster ways.
