1) how does the adolescent brain develope?
2) illustrate the middle adult era of adulthood. how does it work?
Adolescence is the time when there are several changes in the brain, particularly through the process of pruning. The brain becomes more efficient as unused connections in the grey matter are pruned away while other connections are strengthened. This pruning process begins in the hind brain, and the prefrontal cortex, is remodelled last. Adolescents experience changes in the prefrontal cortex till early adulthood. This part of the brain is responsible for the ability to plan and think about the consequences of actions, solve problems and control impulses. As the prefrontal cortex is still developing, adolescents tend to rely on the amygdala to make decisions and solve problems more than adults do. The amygdala is associated with emotions, impulses, aggression and instinctive behaviour which can thus characterise adolescent thought and action.
