What would be the population for your study?
The population of the research should be pilots and cabin crew members as they would be well aware of the issues that arise during a flight and would be able to provide a better insight on the topic.
What would constitute an appropriate sample?
For well-rounded research, the sample size should be 10% of the population, however, it should not exceed 1000. In this case, it can be assumed that the number of pilots and cabin crew members across the country could be well over 10,000. Hence, an ideal sample would be 1000 respondents.
What methods would be appropriate for collecting data to answer this question/these questions? Why are these methods appropriate/effective?
The appropriate method for data collection should be 'Interviews', as it is a qualitative method whose results are based on intensive engagement with respondents about the study or research. The data can be collected via a face-to-face meeting, telephone, or email.
What is an alternative method of data collection for this question/these questions? Why is this also appropriate?
A survey could be an alternate method of data collection for this research. A survey can provide information based on the individual or group experiences about flying.
Which method do you think is better? Why?
In my opinion, Interview is a better method to collect data for this research. This is so because, through an Interview, we will be able to get qualitative data and respondents will be able to provide real-life examples and experiences about the topic. An interview can be open-ended, with respect to a survey where most of the questions are closed-ended and provide only a rating or Yes/No answers.
