Many Jewish, Christian, and Muslim women choose to dress modestly. Read the following article “My Year of Modesty” at this link:http://www.salon.com/2013/07/02/my_year_of_modesty/. Considering the differing views of women in religion as well as this author’s opinion of the modern world, what do you think about women dressing modestly—for religious reasons or otherwise? Some people, such as in France where burkas are now outlawed, think differently as you can see in this link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1279349/Burka-rage-female-lawyer-rips-veil-Muslim-woman-French-clothes-store.html What is your response to the situation in France?

Why are we studying women's issues in African
cultures?
How does the current debate on race relations/Black
Lives Matter movement (after the killing of George Floyd) connect
to race issues in Africa?
The answer is just one paragraph each, that's it. e.x
To my knowledge, Chimamanda Adiche said it best: "the
problem with stereotypes is not that they are [always] untrue, but
that they're incomplete." This and systemic oppression - double
whammy for African women as Black and female-identifying - portray
African women unfairly, homogenously, and altogether incorrectly,
leading to false assumptions and generalizations of what it means
to be an "African woman." It's important to study the history,
culture, portrayal, empowerment, and multiplicity of African women
so they are plurally represented in the media, our hearts, and our
minds, just like white western culture, which is quite honestly
only a fraction as rich, diverse, and enriching as POC diasporic
cultures, including the African diaspora.
The common thread tying the BLM movement and the
varied experiences of African women across the diaspora is
resisting anti-Blackness. Anti-Blackness targets and marginalizes
Back people particularly in the U.S. but also around the world in
different ways across contexts but fundamentally results in
discrimination against Black people that leaves them disadvantaged
compared to white and even some non-Black POC in terms
opportunities, health, security, finances, socialization, and
pretty much every shared systemic aspect of life. I am hoping this
course will inform the specific ways in which not only such
movements but also people are connected, diverse, and perhaps most
importantly united in generating long-term change to sustain
equity.

For each of the following case studies, play the role of a clinician and make the most accurate diagnosis possible from the given information.
7. Sarah has an unrealistic fear of shopping in crowded stores and walking through crowded streets. She has begun to spend more and more time home alone in order to avoid the panicky feeling she gets when she goes out in public.
8. Emmit, who has just suffered a serious knee injury, cannot undergo an MRI because he has an irrational fear of narrow, enclosed places that he developed after he got stuck in a well when he was a kid.
9. Lately, Jon has been getting into physical fights and recently got arrested for trying to steal a car. When his mom went to bail him out of jail, she told police officers that she doesn’t know what to do with her son, as he lacks remorse for his behavior. She also revealed that this has been going on for a long time – when he was a kid, he would even throw rocks at the stray cats in the neighborhood.
10. Sam's friends are starting to worry about him. Normally energetic and fun-loving, Sam has become withdrawn and sullen. He has lost weight, is constantly tired, and hasn't been showing up to lacrosse practice or to his fraternity meetings. In his conversations with others, he expresses feelings of doubt and unworthiness, and seems to be showing some risk factors for suicide.
11. What are some risk factors for suicide? Name at least three. What would you do if Sam (the case above) was your friend and you were worried he might be thinking about suicide? Answer not as a clinician, but as a caring friend for this question.
