Many Jewish, Christian, and Muslim women choose to dress modestly. Read the following article “My Year of Modesty” at this link:http://www.salon.com/2013/07/02/my_year_of_modesty/. Considering the differing views of women in religion as well as this author’s opinion of the modern world, what do you think about women dressing modestly—for religious reasons or otherwise? Some people, such as in France where burkas are now outlawed, think differently as you can see in this link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1279349/Burka-rage-female-lawyer-rips-veil-Muslim-woman-French-clothes-store.html What is your response to the situation in France?
Dressing modestly should be the choice of the women. However most of the women dress modestly due to the religious reasons and if given chances they would like to dress according to the latest trend. Dressing modestly at the will of a woman will definitely deliberate her from many tensions, it will help her accept herself as she is. It will give freedom from the race that she has to do against aging, fine lines or facial hairs that rebounds after every few days of hair removal. It will give her freedom from wearing uncomfortable footwears that is causing her backpain and backbone problems. She could focus on more important things that would help her to have confidence and value herself. This would also help her to prevent her body from being an object of commercialization.
One should have the right how they choose to dress their bodies. In France they should give this freedom, compulsorily banning of burkas is not reasonable. But, this banning would be a relief for those who have to Burkas under pressure from their male partners and religious restrictions. Still France should reconsider it banning decision because this decision is due to the prejudice and stereotype towards a particular religion.
