After reading the Biography in Context database entries on Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, briefly compare and contrast these two leaders of industry. Considering that while both are quite different, observe some unifying qualities.
Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, the most wealthy and successful men in the PC industry, revolutionized the world of science and inventions. Steve is best known as the co-founder & CEO of Apple Computer, while Bill Gates is the co-founder and Chief Software Architect of Microsoft. They started their careers in the same industry. Jobs was a creative technological leader and visionary of things in his work, whereas Bill Gates was very moderate because he thought more about the necessity to fulfill the needs of today rather than tomorrow.
Both are founders of the biggest tech companies which have shaped the world technical sphere since their inception.Both were immensely burdened with leadership roles in their respective companies and were quite different in their approaches.Actually they both contrasted in this regard.
Bill Gates offers a a lot of participative leadership vogue. He believes in the worth of input from his staff for overall company success. The thrust behind the success of Microsoft is the ardent and tireless attitude of bill gates. He understands that in business you'll have fluctuations and changes that you just should adapt to to succeed. With this business perspective, Gates has created an organization that has been able to face up to the storm and still pop out on top as a shining star. Through the method of delegation of tasks, Gates was able to develop an organization that utilizes the abilities of his team members to the fullest.
One of the most important differences with bill gates from Steve
Jobs is he wasn't as artistic as Steve at his time. He did not
share his passion for developing through his concepts alone.
Instead he used the concepts and advice of his team to provide a
number of important technology game changers in the market
nowadays. He is a genius in his own means.
Bill Gates had a novel skill set. He was ready to visualize his
goal and dreams and move forward together with his process to make
them come true. His envision for the world to have a computer in
each household has gained important traction and success since his
early years.
Steve Jobs offers an autocratic leadership style. An autocratic
leadership has only one person answerable, the authoritarian, who
collects very little to no input from team members. The leader is
the main person answerable of decision making and typically decides
based on underlying ideas instead of solid proof. While this type
of leadership could appear harsh to some it brought success to
Steve Jobs.
Through his innovative ideas, Jobs created one of the most
flourishing tech firms in the world. Though his perspective and
leadership style could have come off as assertive to some, his
dedication to innovation and style has surely benefited not solely
his company, Apple, but consumers everywhere the globe.
Jobs understood the importance of taking risks and will be thought
of one of the most important risk taking leaders within the world.
even though during his career he created mistakes, he learnt from
them and grew with what was necessary to succeed.
Unlike Gates, Jobs did not perceive the advantage of working
along as a team with his employees. He was seen as strict on his
team members and more of a dictator than an actual leader. while
his techniques were troublesome to people who worked for him, they
were quite effective for the success of Apple devices.
Steve Jobs had creative design attitude. He wished to develop his
products however he saw best fit. He was once quoted as saying
"people don't know what they want until you show it to them." that
helped Steve during this creative and design process in making
products he knew the customers wanted.
Steve Jobs had a capability to acknowledge the helpful skills in
folks, just in a much different way than Gates. He was a real
motivational speaker. He had the power to get folks interested and
passionate about something. He developed a positive atmosphere that
was created through positive thinking and innovative style.
When comparing leadership qualities between Gates and
Steve Jobs, they're on a totally completely different spectrum
entirely. From the leader and follower relationship style of gates
to the Leader style of Steve Jobs, each offered a number of
successful products to the world.
Similarities:
Even though the leadership style may have been entirely different but they had one major thing in common, the passion and dedication to innovation in the world of computing technology.
They both also had the risk taking attitude and served as a shining example of motivators for newer generations of tech community.
