To maintain the track's drainage inspection, the following methods have to use:

i) Inspect all side drains, catch water drains should be clear.

ii) It is to be ensured that the rain water should not deposited on bridge or culverts that creates obstruction. The plastics or any harmful spoilers should not be deposited in the side drains or catch water drains that obstructed the drainage of outfall water.

iii) Every Junior Engineer or Assistant Engineer should check the drains before the monsoon as it is clear or not.

iv) Besides all these, if anytime in monsoon there will excess rainfall, motor pump should be present to clear the water as soon as possible to the nearer water bodies or any field .

The important and most widely methods of maintanance of track alignment or track geometry is Tamping, in which tampers are used for day to day requirements.It is more economical, high speedy and effective work. Tamping is mainly two types, i.e On track tping and off track tamping.

In Off track tamping, portable machines are used and to the opposite side of the sleepers below the rail to check the maximum consolidstion of ballast. In this process, there is no traffic blockage condition , but in this process need more man powee for the portable machines.

In On track tamping, self proppelled vehicles are used to give the loads on the sleepers automatically and to check consolidation of ballast..It is most effective work.

i) The rails and sleepers should be placed on a subgrade soil which has high strength to hold the entire formation.

ii) the sub base layer must be permeable enough to drain the rain water, otherwise it affects on the rails and sleepers.

iii) The joints of sleepers and rails should be inspect once in a week it is under permissble limit or not, otherwise the bolts may be tightened by the jacks.

iv) The roughness of the rails maybe inspected.
