Ans: Chronic Diseases: Long persisting disease is called as chronic disease. These are non-communicable in nature means can't spread person to person. This kind of diseases have long duration, generally slow progression and they are the major cause of adult mortality and morbidity worldwide. Some chronic forms though are caused by transmissible infections such as HIV/AIDS. These are very common with age.
WHO recommended these diseases as the "GROUP II DISEASES" category.
The diseases who's time period extend from more than 3 months categorized as Chronic disease.
Causes of chronic diseases: Main reason of chronic diseases is poor life styles, including poor diet having no nutritional values, smoking, lack of physical activity, over use of alcohol.
Example of Chronic Diseases: Obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, asthma, hypertension, arthritis, cardiovascular disease and several types of cancer. Some viral infections are chronic in nature for eg., Hepatitis C and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
Why they are considered Chronic?:
The chronic is word used worldwide to remove the language barriers in healthcare sector. Chronic is not a symbol for a disease but it show the long -lasting functional disabilities, development problems, and visual impairment.
The disease lasting 3 months or more, by the definition of the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics.
Chronic diseases generally cannot be restricted by vaccines or remedied by medication, nor do they just disappear.
Infectious Diseases: Main causes of Infectious diseases are pathogens, like bacterial, Viruses, fungi, and parasites.
Mode of Transmission:
1. Person to person by direct contact. (Mother to unborn children)
2. Water born illness.
3. Contaminated food based infections.
4. Aerosolization infections.
5.Arthropodae/ Insects based infections (Mosqiutoes, ticks).
6. From animals to human being.
Who Prone to infections?: The weak immune system, the suppressed immune system (the cancer patient, diabetes patients, and who operate or undergo surgery or who have recently had organ transplant. The person without Proper vaccination in their early age. Healthcare workers. The most important those persons who travel at infectious areas or the area prone to infections, for eg., Zika Viruses, COVID-19.
Many infectious diseases not treated at a particular time period it will become life-threatening. Some become reasons of cancer, Hepatitis B & C -Liver cancer.
Why they are called as infectious diseases?:
These are Communicable diseases or Transmission diseases. Infectious diseases are contagious and can be transmitted to other people, so they are called infectious diseases.
