Research... Define what are chronic diseases and infectious diseases. Pick a chronic disease and an infectious disease discussing the following: What is the severity of these diseases? Who are at risk for these diseases and why? What is the percentage of individuals infected by the disease and why? and provide preventional education.
Answer: A chronic disease can be defined as the the disease that occurs long lasting as well as the health of human is effected along with the time. Chronic disease includes such as cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes etc.
One of the chronic disease is the diabetes Mellitus. In this kind of disease, the blood glucose levels rises up. The pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin to balance the blood glucose levels. This disease occurs due to poor lifestyle, hereditary reasons, malnutrition etc. Mostly people after the age of 30-35 develops this kind of disease. This can not be treated completely but the symptoms can be managed. 9.5% of the US population suffers from diabetes. The treatment and prevention includes such as metformin which reduces blood glucose levels, insulin injections. Modifications in lifestyle could reduce the risk of severity of the disease.
Infectious disease are the diseases caused by virus, bacteria or other microbes. It can be treated or sometimes can not be treated. The infectious diseases are communicable. It means that it can be transmitted from one person to another through bodily fluids of the infected person. Some of the infectious diseases are HIV, chicken pox, whooping cough etc.
The HIV is the virus which attack the human immune system. This causes reduction in the immunity. People mostly have AIDS and other infections. Aids is transmitted through unprotected sex, infected blood transfusion etc.
Although the treatment are not available for this disease, symptoms are managed through medications. Patients need to prevent themselves from other infectious diseases.
