  • Addiction is something which can be substance or behaviour related.It refers to a chronic dysfunction in the brain which involves reward and motivation.Its basically when your body craves for that substance or indulging in a specific behaviour which causes a compulsiveness to seek rewards and not worrying about the consequences.
  • So,drug abuse,social media usage,sex behaviours,gambling etc. can all be termed as addictiive behaviours,as such behaviours could be providing compelling rewards to the person,which increases the likelihhod to repeat the behaviour again.So,if a person has been winning or losing at the gambling,it is rewarding and over time it could turn into an addiction.Despite the negative consequences,the person compulsively engages in gambling in the quest to win.
  • A behaviour becomes an addiction when the person is unable to stop himself or herself to engage in it.There is a lack of self control and an increased desire for that behaviour.
  • Such people dismiss the idea that excessively indulging in such behaviours can be damaging for them and they lack emotional response.Continuously engaging in such behaviours could start interfering in th normal life of an individual and it could worsen over time.
  • People engaging such behaviours related with social media,sex or gambling would seek out situations which encourages these behaviours.It could cause memory loss and insomnia in the person.They blame others for their addictive behaviours,may experience depression,anxiety and loneliness.
  • The person becomes dependent on such behaviours as a way to cope with one's emotions which could affect their relationships as well.They would start neglecting their work,family,friends etc.
