After watching the video on addiction, share your thoughts on the opportunities and challenges of working with athletes who are dealing with an addiction. Discuss the impact of the athletic culture on the prevention efforts, interventions, and responsiveness to treatment.
The challenges to work with athletes who are dealing with an addiction is that no matter how much you try, they will never be able to overcome the aggression that they have for the work they do and the kind of environment they are exposed to. They will run back to things that do not matter to them and eventually fall to a point that makes them weak, inefficient, impatient and incapable to hide any thing from the world around. It is a hard time for them which makes the matters so much out of hand that no one can do anything about it even if they try doing so. But the good part is that you get an upper hand in helping them rebuild themselves to evolve as beings who will know what is bets for them and what is not. This is also a signal of a new life blooming from nowhere or out of a bud that once thought things to end as is. They need to understand that it is not always about winning the game and being at the efficient best always. Sometimes we need to agree that there will be people better than us and many who would fall back to this understanding in a lot many ways than we can ever imagine.
