There are many unique characteristics about Google and its business practices. First, Google has developed a PageRank algorithm which evaluates the link structure of the Web and determine which pages are the most important. Google has also developed two business tools which are AdWords and AdSense. AdWords is a unique way to market to specific target through word search and were charged using cost-per-click model which is paying only when somebody actually click on the ad. AdSense unique way website owners to place ads on their web page and generate revenues. According to the text, “by delivering ads that precisely target the content on the site page, Google believes the advertising enhances the experiences for visitors to the website.”
2. Do some research; how did Google get its name?
Eventually, they changed the name to Google; the name of the search engine originated from a misspelling of the word "googol", the number 1 followed by 100 zeros, which was picked to signify that the search engine was intended to provide large quantities of information.
3. What is Google’s Philosophy about advertising? How can less advertising be preferred to more advertising?
Google philosophy about advertising is “showing fewer ads, not more ads; just the right ads at the right time.” Through Google “Quality Score” model it can predict now effective an ad is through click rates, advertiser history, and keyword performance. Less advertising is preferred to more advertising because Google believes in showing advertisement at the right time, when it matters. This allows advertiser to save time and money by advertising when consumers are interested.
