Will the current pandemic cause a spike in overdoses? do you think the closings due to the pandemic will cause this spike, due to normal schedules stopping? or do you believe that people will stay home due to the virus trying to keep from getting sick and miss medical dosages to help stay off of drugs?
Surely the pandamic spikes the overdose issue if it not concerned properly. Death from drug overdoses increased during this current pandamic. Most of the people start to cope with alcohol and drugs in this lock down period. So when pandemic get subside some newly people start drug abuse treatment.
People whose rehabilitation treatment which depend on daily care is distrupted due to covid 19. Doctors nurses and other social workers are forced to take social distance from the patients leaving them to more risk. So they are not able to provide proper treatments to their clients. Most of the patients dont get their personalized doses daily. So in this case, lack of availability and withdrawal symptoms make the patients to buy these drugs in what ever means, leading to drug overdose death.
This pandamic also affect the people who are under treatment for opoid use. If they dont get their medication at proper time they try to get it from ouside the clinic(from streets) which may lead to over dose crisis. The drugs from out side the clinic might be mixed with other drug substances like fentanyl which spikes the overdose issue.
For daily drug users and drug abuse patients it is very difficult to stay in home without taking these drugs. It will affect their daily activities due to the withdrawal symptom and may lead to death.
