Think of an example from your experience, either in your work or in your role as a consumer, where you can see a use for a hypothesis test. Give an example that would involve a test of either one population mean or proportion and give an example that would involve either comparing two means or comparing two proportions. In both examples, state what the null and alternate hypothesis would be. If possible, compare that application to the possibility of error in a jury trial - and the possible ethical consequences of coming to an incorrect conclusion

Test of one population mean.

Suppose someone is buying the same type of rice from previous 2 months from a shop and he eagerly use this rice for eating as it takes much smaller time to boils and cooked easily.but this time when he go to the shop to buy the same rice .The shopkeeper tell him that the rice he used to buy is out of stock and suggest him to buy another type but the customer is not buying because he thinks that this rice may not be boils at the same time but the shopkeeper claims that this rice too take same cooking time .so, he just buy half kg of rice and tell that if there is no significant differences between the two rice types then he will buy otherwise he will not.

Here ,null hypothesis,H0: the average cooking time of both rice are same. , Against, alternative hypothesis,H1: the average cooking time of both rice are not same.

Test of hypothesis of compairing two means

Suppose we have to buy a wire for electrical wiring of our house then we choose that type of wire which is helpful in stopping unusual fire or short circuit. We go to electronic shop and demand the wire which are suitable for house wiring then the shopkeeper show us two types of wire one is of copper and other is of aluminium and tells that both has same output and efficiency ot a particular voltage. Now with the help of hypothesis testing of means we consider which one is better and for this we have taken two small samples of both wires and then check it whether there is significant difference between the two wires or not.

For this ,our null hypothesis ,H0: both the wire have no difference I.e. significantly no difference. And alternative hypothesis H1: there is difference between copper and aluminium wire.

And if our conclusion after testing of hypothesis reject null hypothesis and after that we are accepting any type of wire and purchasing it then there is a chance of commiting error.
