Provide an example from your own work/life experience where someone did not delegate but may have benefited from delegation (the person who did not delegate in this example could be your boss, family member, or even you). Explain the tasks and responsibilities involved in the scenario. Why might that person have decided not to delegate? Based on the book's discussion of the benefits of delegation, how could delegation have improved the situation?
Write a minimum of 250 words responding to the question above.
The incident is of the time when a decision to delegate a sales promotion campaign was decided against by the departmental manager, who chose to visit himself to the location and stayed there for over a week. One of our team member was experienced in the same area and had led few such campaigns independently in the past, but the leader had a negative perception of him, because of his appearance and personality which the leader believed was not good enough to impress an urban customer base. The campaign delayed some vital decisions that could have been taken, had the leader been stayed back at th headquarter. The company nearly missed an order due to absence of leader, who was the only decision maker.
The probable cause why the leader did not delegate, was lack of faith and the negative perception of the person who had a semi urban background. The impact was in form of a large number of tasks suffering as a result, and some opportunities missed in the process. I believe that the decision was wrong and it would have been appropriate, had the subordinates been given the chance.
