Give an example, either from your experience, or your research, in which the data from a program evaluation was not assessed correctly and was misrepresented. Analyze the ramifications of these outcomes. please respond in one paragraph or more.
Misrepresentation from a program evaluation are sometimes deliberately misleading and sometimes it’s just a case of people not understanding the data. |
Follwing are the factorswhich can make the program evaluation misrepresentation in case of graph representation: |
The Vertical scale is too big or too small, or skips numbers, or doesn’t start at zero. |
The graph isn’t labeled properly. |
Data is left out. |
But some real life misleading graphs go above and beyond the classic types. Some are intended to mislead, others are intended to shock. And in some cases, well-meaning individuals just got it all plain wrong. |
For example, once a program was conducted to see how much profit a company can earn with the sale of a particular product and instead of deducting the sales from the cost , the cost was deducted from the sales. So it shows that the company was incurring loss on that product. So the company decided to discontinue the product. |
If an impact evaluation fails to systematically undertake causal attribution, there is a greater risk that the evaluation will produce incorrect findings and lead to incorrect decisions. For example, deciding to scale up when the programme is actually ineffective or effective only in certain limited situations, or deciding to exit when a programme could be made to work if limiting factors were addressed. |
