6 What is the generational equity debate? What does this debate say about inheritance?
7 Can you describe some of the effects of race, class and gender on aging?
8/9 Should age or need be the basis for entitlement? Give the arguments that could be made and also your own view
10 What are the effects of politics, networking, interest groups on our current views of aging?
6) The generational equity debate is basically the argument against or for the concept that different generations should be treated in a similar way and individuals irrespective of their age should be given similar opportunities without any bias. The debate tends to solve whether benefits received by an individual out of their age can be inherited or not.
.
7) The race, class or gender do have effects on aging. For example females have a more tendency to grow health care problems at nearby future than the men who have stamina . Similarly certain racial people might be influenced with a corporate culture where people of old age work even after reaching 60 or so.
.
8/9 ) Yes age can definitely be based for the entitlement of certain benefits on the basis of limited capacity, strength or ability of people. For example the Old age pension scheme or medical insurance claims which are given specifically to people who have crossed the limit of certain age group so that they can be supported. Or in case of kids, until they can support themselves. My view is that age should be a basis of providing entitlements as long as the equity is maintained, and even if age becomes basis of privilege it is equates with proper facts and evidences to reflect on the necessity of the same
.
10) The politics, networking and interest groups have affected the perspective of looking at age , both positively as well as negatively. The networking has resulted in highlighting or reflecting of various important and essential topics or issues regarding aging which need to be discussed and addressed. The interest groups have modified their view regarding aging and started to advocate various concepts to ensure that this factor is not considered while deciding benefits, positions, entitlements etc. Politics on the other hand affects the views of aging by formulating such policies, laws and regulations which benefits them and also imposes certain restrictions regarding their existence.
