Assume you are the HR director of a tech company located in Jackson, MS. Based on the kind of service it provides, it will see a sharp increase in their business due to the coronanvirus pandemic. Your CEO has tasked you with hiring a significant number of new employees, both professional and non-professional. Professional employees include computer scientists, engineers, designers, accountants, and marketing/sales people. The non-professional employees includes clerical staff, maintenance staff, and custodial staff. How would you go about successfully recruiting each group? How would you ensure the best possible and most diverse applicant pool? Assume that things will be back to normal by summer.
Due to the nature of the work of the company, to meet the increasing demand of the professional and non-professional staff, the HR director need to adapt to the regular recruiting efforts and fulfil the human resource demand in this remote work landscape. The recruitment standard procedure needs to be changed such as utilizing video conferencing tools for conducting the interviews or sending e-mails. In other words, the recruitment process should be digitized.
Digital interviews are the best way of recruitment in the present situation which will also provide a measure of flexibility to the prospects of the company. Interviewing the candidate remotely from a familiar or personal setting will be a highly well-accepted concept. This empathic gesture will want the people to work for the company more willingly.
Though, a large pool of talent may be available to be recruited due to increasing unemployment due to cronavirus pandemic, recruiting the best ones might be a challemge for the recruiter. A proactive approach should be adopted by having proper communication with the candidates. The recruiter may contact the appropriate candidate through e-mails and opt to send a small personal note rather than writing an email auto-response which can be a more convincing way. The employer has to allow the employees to work from home until the pandemic ends (until summer). They should ensure that they will be utilizing all the means to prepare and protect their people in the workplace
