A traumatic experience is the experience which causes both physical and mental injury. It can be any unexpected or shocking incidents.people differ in their response to traumatic experience. The amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex of the brain associated with the stress related with traumatic experience. This stress can make long lasing changes in the brain. At the time of traumatic experiences, stress hormones are released. These can cause damages to brain especially to the hippocampus which is associated with integrating memory.
Brain functioning looks different in a PTSD person and a non -PTSD person .Post Traumatic Stress Disorder affects the brain functions in different ways. The impact of stress affects the brain parts which play an important part in regulating emotions and responding to fear. After traumatic experience and with PTSD, these areas may carry out and operate differently than before. The amygdala becomes hyperactive in PTSD which causes chronic stress and irritation. By trauma, the hippocampus may get physically affected;Eventually affects the ability to recall some memories .The Environments that reminds the traumatic incident can recall fear and stress to persons with PTSD.The prefrontal cortex which is the emotion-regulating center is often affected after trauma and becomes vulnerable to other parts of the brain.
Stress resulted of traumatic experience affects our autonomic nervous system, endocrine system, and immune system; The inflammatory hormones dumped into the blood stream on the memory of the traumatic experience as result of which physical issues like tiredness, increased perspiration, variation in blood pressure, problems in digesting food.A traumatic brain injury can influence memory processing, memory encoding or memory retrieval, but, in cases of noninjury, memory loss could be a symptom of dissociation or freezing.
