Write a 500 word essay (not an email or letter) based on the writing prompt.
Topic: What causes a person to become an excellent student?
The longer you spend studying, the more you learn and the better grades you earn. But the quality of your study time needs to be efficient, so remove all distractions (cell phones, television, loud / fast music, and talkative friends / family members) to ensure a quiet, focused environment. If you can't find a quiet place to study, wear headphones with noise cancellation (but don't play any music). For example, if you finish your lunch early, head to the library or any other quiet spot that won't get too crowded
Write yourself tiny exams and quizzes. Take the time to write up some issues or you could ask someone to write them for you. Just note, the more knowledge you learn and think about, the more likely it is to stick. For example, if you're studying for algebra, make a friend write down some equations for you to solve. Time yourself if you struggle with time control during test-taking. Practice writing paragraphs using appropriate vocabulary terms and different sentence structures for Language Arts courses. Make it easy to write a review of your favorite film or write down your thoughts on something you're interested in.
To extend your vocabulary read as much as you can. You can expand your vocabulary and comprehension skills by reading books that challenge you, which is helpful when a teacher presents linguistically arduous texts. If you're not an avid reader already, start at your level and work your way up. Read something that you want to dig into. If you have a friend who likes reading, ask them for recommendations. Go to your school or local library and ask the librarian for recommendations in other mediums based on your likes and dislikes
To help you learn new things, create mind maps of the topics. Mind-maps help you link old and new knowledge, providing some meaning to new data so you can remember them. This method is particularly useful if you need to discuss ideas for large projects. Write down the topic in the center to create a mind map, add lines pointing in various directions, and write your ideas on top of the lines.Try to come up with as many ideas as you can. If you are lost, do some research for more information. Think about this exercise as a form of association of words or ideas.
It is extremely important to remain organized in school because if you are organized you are one step ahead of being successful. A good way to get started is to have a folder for each topic. This means placing your math papers in your math folder, your Language Arts papers in your Language Arts folder, your science papers in your Science folder, and so on. Use color coding or mark your folders and place them neatly into your desk or backpack. This way, you can find your folders easier to scan and have more time to study what you learned yesterday. If you like, you can even put bookmarks in all of your folders to make them easier to find when you take your folders
