A person travels by car from one city to another with different constant speeds between pairs of cities. She drives for 50.0 min at 70.0 km/h, 13.0 min at 70.0 km/h, and 35.0 min at 30.0 km/h and spends 50.0 min eating lunch and buying gas. (a) Determine the average speed for the trip. km/h (b) Determine the distance between the initial and final cities along the route. km Viewing Saved Work Revert to Last Response
Given data: (Please check whether you have typed question correctly or not)
t1= 50 min=0.8333 h , v1= 70 km/h
t2= 13 min=0.2167 h, v2= 70 km/h
t3= 35 min=0.5833 h , v3= 30 km/h
t4= 50 min=0.8333 h
We know that average speed is given by:
Let x1,x2,x3be the distance traveled by the car in time t1,t2,t3 respectively. Therefore we have distances as follows:
Therefore total distance traveled = 58.33+15.17+17.5=91 km
Total time taken will be = 0.8333+0.2167+0.5833+0.8333=2.4666 h
Substituting values we get :
Please round the answer as required by you.
Therefore 36.89 km/h is the required average speed and 91 km is the required
distance between initial and final cities
