Solutions

Expert Solution

1)

When a nerve impulse travels from one neuron to another it follows this path:-

a) axon, synapse, dendrite

A nerve cell that carries messages is called a neuron. The messages carried by neurons are called nerve impulses. Nerve impulses can travel very quickly because they are electrical impulses.

Process

  1. When a nerve impulse travels through the neuron it reaches the end of an axon, the axon releases chemicals called neurotransmitters.
  2. Neurotransmitters travel across the synapse(The place where the axon of one neuron meets the dendrite of another )
  3. Neurotransmitters bind to the membrane of the dendrite.
  4. The binding allows the nerve impulse to travel through the receiving neuron.

2)

The part of the brain is responsible for higher thinking and decision making is the Frontal lobe.

The frontal lobe is the largest part of the human brain. It contains many structures-

  1. the prefrontal cortex
  2. orbitofrontal cortex
  3. motor and premotor cortices,
  4. Broca’s area.

These substructures are involved in attention and thought, voluntary movement, decision–making, and language

Functions

  • voluntary motor control
  • Executive processes (voluntary behavior such as decision making, planning, problem–solving, and thinking)
  • cognition
  • intelligence
  • attention
  • language processing
  • comprehension, and many others.
