How and where reciprocal inhibition might be used to improve patient outcomes in quality and improve patient safety:

In present scenario there is an increasing attention on the practices to measure & improve safety culture in healthcare system.

The one of the most popular practice of present arena is the reciprocal system in healthcare.

Reciprocal inhibition is the way of defining opposite of the undesirable behavior & reinforces the positive instead. Reciprocal inhibition can be very much utilized for leaders in helping change behaviors wishing for high reliability.

For the example:

Instead of punishing errors, reward the quality and in this way it will motivate for the better future findings as experts say.

Although we can decrease the frequency of any behavior through punishment this is the thinking in majority of the cases, but by utilizing the theory of reciprocal inhibition it can be achieved in better way. If this theory is applied in healthcare system then it might be used to improve patient outcomes in quality and patient safety.

At the same time it will provide a best platform for patient’s involvement in their therapy.

Safety culture state that the patient safety is on major concern in an organization specially focusing on staff’s attitudes about patient safety and at what extent patients are involved in the therapy.

If there is need of patient concern then it is properly addressed or followed in a proper way or not?

And how the social and cultural beliefs of a patient are treated, these are some key markers reflecting the standards of patient safety outcomes in an organization.

Thus it will foster a culture of quality in an organization to become a high-reliability organization.

Strategy for overcoming the challenges of fostering a culture of high reliability:

There is need to attain the psychological belief of the patient in physician and other staff.

There should be a positive relation between the patients as we’ll as other healthcare professionals addressing that our main focus is complete well being of the patients.

In this way the patients should be pre aware about adverse events and medication errors and training how to be ready for that and in which way it can be reduced.

For this there is need that the patients totally have faith in healthcare staaf and it should be maintained at priority level.

This strategy is very important in this case to handle effectively the situations in the healthcare system.
