how do we know that the "unconscious" exists and how does it impact our personality? Feel free to use arguments, theories, or hypothesizes from both Freud and Carl Gustav Jung as well as any examples you can come up with.
Note ; If you believe the unconscious does not exist,
explain why and refute the theories of Freud and Carl Gustav Jung
(Carl jung was a Swiss psychiatrist )
The psychoanalytic theory that was proposed by Freud seeks to
argue about the existence of an "unconscious" that exists within
us. It is described as the real source of all the feelings,
thoughts, urges and memories that come to us. Freud claimed that
most of what we are and our behavior is greatly influenced by this
unconscious self.
He gave the analogy of the iceberg to explain his idea of the
unconscious self. He explained that the self that we understand and
know is just the tip of the iceberg and the large part of the
iceberg that we cannot see is the unconscious self in this analogy.
All the basic instincts and the urges that the individual has are
the result of unconscious self. It is important to note that Freud
was not the one who invented this concept of the unconscious self
and the concept existed prior to Freud coming in to the
picture.
