  • According to studies done in the book “Patient Safety and Quality: An Evidence-Based Handbookfor Nurses” Chapter 26 reveals the very real stress that nurses endure. Sources of stress include patient care, decision-making, taking responsibility and change.
  • It is quite unrealistic to expect healthcare workers to model mental, physical, and spiritual health, when the overwhelming population within the United States is overweight, under-active, workaholics, and experience a great deal of burnout.
  • Due to the fact that healthcare workers represent a circumference of the general population of the United States, these individuals would tend to display the same or similar characteristics that the rest of the population displays, in reference to their physical and mental health, as well as their dietary habits and lack of exercise.
  • Healthcare workers generally display the same tendencies that the rest of the population displays. It can be a bit annoying to hear you have to lose weight or cut out fats from your diet from an obese doctor or nurse, but that's their job--teaching preventative health measures to avoid illness.
  • The role of nursing also includes various job related duties that cause anxiety and stress for example physical labor, human suffering, work hours, staffing and interpersonal relationships that surround nurses in the work they do. It is no wonder health care workers experience burnout – a lapse in mental, physical and spiritual health.
  • The believe every nurse's main motive is to work well, do well and perform what is best for the patients, but the burnout and work overload frustrate them and in turn slow them in their performance. “Each person needs to decide how to find balance, energy, and wellness in all important aspects of their lives”. (Grand Canyon University, 2015).
  • However, some reading or listening to music or brief walk can make promote successful work performance.
