How many grams of NaCl are contained in 350. mL of a 0.152 M solution of sodium chloride?
A) 6.22 g
B) 8.9 g
C) 3.11 g
D) 53.2 g
E) none of these
Solution :-
Given data
Molarity of NaCl = 0.152 M
volume of NaCl solution = (350.0 ml * 1 L) / 1000 ml = 0.350 L
mass of NaCl = ?
We are given with the molarity and volume of the NaCl solutiin and asked to calculate the moles.
We know formula to calculate the molarity is as follows
molarity = moles / volume in liter
so we can rearrange this formula to calculate the moles of solute as
moles = molarity * volume in liter
moles of NaCl = 0.152 mol per L * 0.350 L
= 0.0532 mol NaCl
now lets convert moles of NaCl to its mass
formula to calculate mass using moles is as follows
mass = moles * molar mass
molar mass of NaCl = 58.443 g per mol
lets put the values in the formula
mass of NaCl = 0.0532 mol * 58.443 g per mol
= 3.11 g NaCl
Therefore grams of NaCl present in the solution = 3.11 g NaCl
