In many cases conflicts is termed as a roadblock to productivity, efficiency and interpersonal relations and thus detrimental to overall culture of the organisation. However, all conflicts are not harmful for organisation. It can be actually beneficial at times. The conflicts sometimes press the employees to think from the other viewpoint,and against the conventions. It encourages brainstorming to find alternative solutions that are more effective. Conflicts promote individual creativity and independent thinking. Conflicts help the teams to avoid groupthink and avoid the beaten track. The examples of this phenomenon are high performance independent work teams which promote development of independent ideas and use problem solving methods to select the most optimum alternatives. This actually encouages participation, enriches the thought process of employees and leads to more rational and informed decision making.
