would you agree that trust and respect are at the crux of any productive relationship, but another side of this pillar contains a person who can drive you to both personal and professional success. While this type of mentor may initially come across as difficult, the ability to inspire and drive a mentee to go beyond and continue to work even after their goals have been completed is key to long-term success. We must always remember that as servant leaders, the mold we set for our mentees is the base for which they will use to teach and lead others.

Expert Solution

Yes, I believe that trust & respect surely adds to the dignity of the mentee & builds a productive relationship but it is relevant for the current context. The other side where a person can drive and inspire the performance can create a much larger impact on both personal & professional front.

The mentor which comes across as difficult helps the mentee to take the criticism & feedback in a positive manner the career progression takes places in the correct manner.

It is important for personal growth in career to understand what mistakes have been made and efforts put in that direction as well.

  • The brain acts more strongly to negative things and hence it is good to get such feedback and increase the strength areas.
  • Although it is important for the mentor to deliver criticism in the right manner & work towards getting the best out of mentee and help in behavioural change.
  • It is important to understand the motives and if the motives are correct it can create better relationships between mentor/mentee and help in the future.
  • It is important for the mentor to not attack the person or his/her values, character and focus on the behaviour aspect.

It is true that the mould we set for our mentees acts as a base and hence the mentor should:

  • focus on improvement,
  • makes him/her more acceptable to feedback
  • and hence opens channels for leadership roles.
  • It helps to advance career goals, makes a better team player & helps the relationship of mentor & mentee to get better.

That is, can you think of any other (non-ethical) explanations for why we (now/no longer) have these particular laws? If so, what would those reasons be if not “ethical” ones? And furthermore, what might...
