• Response Latency is the time span between a stimulus and a response or reaction. It is often used in psychology, especially in experiments in cognitive or social psychology. In cognitive psychology, for example, shorter response latencies can mean quicker brain processing or better memory.
• Psychologists and scientists have used response latency in cognitive and social psychology research in order to measure a number of things. In animal studies, a shortening response latency to the same stimulus usually indicates that the stimulus is becoming more and more effective at eliciting a response.
• Response latency is the speed or ease with which a response to a survey question is given after a respondent is presented with the question. It is used as an indicator of attitude accessibility, which is the strength of the link between an attitude object and a respondent's evaluation of that object.
  
• Response topography is the physical manifestation or attributes of a response to a stimulus. It is simply the physical movements that are involved in a response.
• Some examples are duration and strength of the response. The response topography of Pavlov's dogs was salivation in response to the food and the bell.
• Another example is your reaction when a friend startles you. The response topography could be a range of things including jumping, gasping or shrieking, grabbing your heart, or running away.
