Briefly describe Piaget’s theory of cognitive development and Vygotsky’s theory of cognitive development.
Piaget’s theory of cognitive development-
This thories shoes that a child goes by 4 stages of development which leads to know they are getting knowledge.The four stages of Piaget’s theory of cognitive development are
i) Sensorimotor stage: This stage is from birth to 2 years. In this age the child know that if a thing is hidden, it still exists.
ii) Preoperational stage: This stage is from 2 years to 7 years of age. In this age, the think that the child achives that he can understand which is an object and which is a word.
iii) Concrete Operational Stage: This stage is from 7 years of age to 11 years of age. This is a turning point from this stage the child began to have logical thought.
iv) Formal Operational Stage: This age is from 11 years and more. This stages shows the characteristics that the child can have abstract thoughts.
Vygotsky’s theory of cognitive development:
This model gives importance. on social cultural context. According to him, the cognitive development of a child differs according to culture. Guided social knowledge helps in building the thought process of a child. Language also plays an important role like merging of the words and how to tranform his thoughts into words.
