Provide a paragraph that discusses the situation and identify the theory that you used to make your decision.
The situation is like this: When I was 16, one day a puppy fell in a deep pit near my house. And it was crying there for an hour. My mother heard that and told me to help that innocent creature.
At that time, I used Consequential (Utilitarianism) Theory, to make my decision. The pit was full of garbage. So I did not want to enter. At that time I unknowingly utilized the Consequentialist theories of ethics and realized that the moral worth of my action should be judged by its consequences. So a good or right action is one which produces the best consequences overall in the situation. And thus, I entered in the pit in order to save an innocent life.
After that, my mother, father and everyone praised me very much. I was very happy at that time.
Answer the following: did you consider the ends (consequences), relationships (natural law or feminist ethics), your obligation or duty or did you think about your best interest?
Yes, I considered the ends (consequences) as clearly explained above.
Go deeper. Is this your "default" theory the one theory that you always rely upon when you have to make a moral judgment?
Yes, this is my default theory. And even today I utilize it to make a moral judgement.
If so, why? If not, why not?
Reason: Consequentialist theories of ethics hold that the moral worth of an action should be judged by its consequences. So a good or right action is one which produces the best consequences overall in the situation. And of course, it is tough to challenege the practicality of this theory.
