What are the goals of psychology? Provide an example of each and discuss why each of the goals is important. (minimum 100-150 words, no pictures please.)
There are four basic goals of psychology, to describe, explain, predict and control behaviour. The first goal to describe behaviour is important because it helps in developing and understanding a perspective of what behaviour is normal and what is not. For example, if behaviour of an individual is described violent. Second goal is to explain the behaviour. For example here the goal is to explain factors that why an individual is showing violent behaviour. Third is to predict the behaviour. Once we know know the reason for a particular behaviour we are able to predict that in which situations that person can get violent. This is important goal because predicting the violent behaviour in certain situations can help in avoiding those situations. Finally, the most important goal is to change the behaviour. The violent behaviour is to be influenced, controlled and changed by the psychologists in this goal.
