GPS Tracking: You work for a midsize freight delivery company that has been using text messaging as the primary communication channel between drivers and the central dispatch office. Drivers send a message to confirm the time and location whenever they’ve made a delivery or a pickup, and whenever dispatchers get an urgent request from a customer, they send messages to the trucks to find out who is nearby and available. This manual system is clumsy and prone to errors, and the company’s owners want to replace it with a fully computerized mapping system that uses the global positioning system (GPS) to automatically monitor the location of every truck in the fleet. Some drivers are in an uproar over the plan, saying it invades their privacy by tracking their every move all day long. Should the company proceed with the plan even though some drivers object? What are some of the issues to consider here?

Expert Solution

The implementation of the new system is very good and the company has to proceed with the plan of implementation of global positioning system (gps) in their bussiness activities.

The company can proceed with the plan even though some of the driver object.

The issues that the company face for this implementation is as follows :-

1. The cost of implementation of gps is high .

2. There is some of the objection from the drivers of the trucks. And that can be settled with use of some alternatives.

3. If the drivers object with the matter of privacy then the company can say that after completion of the delivery work with the authorization of the company the driver can switch off the gps system to avoid the objection if the privacy matters.

4. The software systems are also to be implemented in the operating place that is in the office of organization .

5. The employees are to be trained to operate and maintain the new systems in the organization.

6. The drivers should be sincere towards this systems that after the truck started from bussiness premises they should not damage the gps equipment and they have to maintain required battery system to track that vehicle by people in office.

7. Any other objections from the drivers can be settled with the discussions and by usage of suitable alternatives to achieve the organization goals.

These are all the points about issues to be consider while the implementation of the GPS in their bussiness activities.

I hope, all the above points and explanations are useful and helpful to you.

Tunay you.
