Dietary management, contributing risk factors and recommendation of diabetes
Diabetes is a metabolic disease. It is a condition that impairs the body's ability to process blood glucose. There are usually two types- type 1 which is gestational diabetes and type 2- diabetes mellitus.
Contributing factors to diabetes are a poor diet, a diet high in fat, calories, and cholesterol which increases risk of diabetes. These poor diet can even lead to obesity which is another contributing factor of diabetes. The other contributing factors are lack of excersise/ inactivity, high BP, PCOD,etc.
Dietary recommendation for diabetes 2 are :-
Should consume at least half of all grains as whole grains. The High fibre containing carbohydrate sources ie, >5g/serving include legumes, whole grain breads and cereals, whole fruits and vegetables and should be included as part of the daily carbohydrate intake.Include high-quality protein such as eggs, beans, low-fat dairy, and unsweetened yogurt. Food to be restricted are Packaged and fast foods, especially those high in sugar, baked goods, sweets, chips, desserts,Trans fats from partially hydrogenated or deep-fried foods and processed meat and red meat.
