Discuss the bases for the selection of the statistical treatment to be used.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Sol: Selection of appropriate statistical analysis is critical for statistical research studies and I generally follow these steps to identif ythe proper treatment:

1. Define the level of measurement for the variables that have tob e used in the analysis. The variabels could be nominal, ordinal, interval or ratio-level. Identify the type of variable for both the dependent and the independent variables.

2. Identify the correct question. Phrase the hypothesis according to the pupose of the experiment. The hypothesis or the question asked should be such that when answered it solves the problem of the researcher. The question is phrased in terms of inding differences, relationships, or prediction.

3. Calculate the sample size or perform power analysis. These are directly related to the statistical test that is chosen. The sample size calculation is based on the power (typically .80 ), the effect size (typically a medium or large effect are selected; the larger the effect, the smaller a sample is needed), and the alpha (e.g., .05).
