A 9.0 V potential difference is applied between the ends of a 0.60-mm diameter, 80-cm long nichrome wire. What is the current in the wire?
Potential difference across the ends of wire,V=9 V
Diameter of wire ,d=0.60 mm=0.6010-3 m
Area of wire,A=(d/2)2=(0.6010-3/2)2=2.8310-7 m2
Length of wire,L=80 cm=0.80 m
Resistivity of nichrome wire,=1.110-6 ohm-m
So
Resistance of wire,R=L/A=(1.110-60.80)/(2.8310-7)=3.1 ohm
So
Current in the wire=V/R=9/2.83=3.18 A
