1A. Will the increased use of these tele-health technology tools be viewed as dehumanizing patient care, or will they be viewed as a means to promote more contact with healthcare providers and new ways for people to stay connected (as in online disease support groups), thereby creating better long-term disease management and patient satisfaction?
B. What types of resistance to new technologies might be evident among patients, caregivers, and nurses? What evidence and strategies might help to diminish these resistances?
A, Telemedicine has been shown to improve Quality, access and
patient satifaction..It's great for people who need to travel long
distances for taking treatment..New technologies are simply new
tools humans using tools for long time..Today's 'Dehumanization'
worry centers on documenting patient information on a
computer..Because excessive emphasis occur while using paper
chart..The impact of HIT on patient-centered care is highly
variable..some studies finds that electronic medical records affect
the patient doctor relationship..
? The health information portability and accountability(HIPAA) laid
out privacy rules for electronic health information..but it has
extraordinarily set of rules. The average age of Americans is
steadily increasing with no slow down in sight..This population and
their healthcare needs and more chronic conditions using
telemedicine helps to avoid hospitalization..Reimbursement is
commonly cited as a major barrier for telemedicine..
? Telemedicine has great value to improve health care, yet
resistance from this professionals could prevent telemedicine's
social value from being materialized..Individual use the negative
consequences of target of resistance as the basis for their
resistant attitudes of protest..People refuse to adopt changes when
cause losses of control, resources or emotional stability which lead
to perception of threat..Reduced autonomy, anxiety and cost is
positivily associated with perceived threat..
? The research finds that resistance to telemedicine
among people can be explained by their perceived threat and
controllability over telemedicine use..Government support weakens
the effect of perceived threat but strengthens the effect of
perceived controllability on telemedicine resistance..
