I think the most challenging stage would be Identity vs Role
confusion,because this conflict takes place during adolescent
phase,which is the most critical phase of everyone's lives.We all
are figuring out ourselves during this
phase.Relationships,univerisity choices,self image,career
choices,discovering ourselves etc.It is the most crucial stage and
can either make or break a person.
Those who are successful at this step will form relationships
that are enduring and secure.
Erikson believed that a strong sense of personal identity was
important for developing intimate relationships. Studies have
demonstrated that those with a poor sense of self do tend to have
less committed relationships and are more likely to suffer
emotional isolation, loneliness, and depression.
When a teenager or young adult is confused about their role in
life,they would feel confused with a lot of self doubt and
hopelessness which can be difficult to overcome for some.That is
why youngsters experience the most percentage of substance
abuse,violent crimes and suicide attempts in this phase,since they
experience social pressures and trying to discover themselves.
