1. What is the "principle of alternate possibilities?"
a. Is Frankfurt's view consistent with soft determinism? Why? How do you know?
The principle of alternate possibilities was given by frankfurt. He defined it by saying that a person is mirally responsible for something he has done only if has alternatively done it . Later he himself experimented and proved ut wrong and said that a person morally responsible for something he has fone even if he hasnt done it alternatively. It is said to be an illusion. It also has a rincie saying that it is only possible if causal determinism is false. Causal determinism is another name of soft determinism as it says that the actions of people are dependent on external causes. Although free will is a part of actions but that is also indluenced by the external causes. On the other hand frankfurt argues that all the actions of people are solely directed by the persons inner will. Hence taking the principle saying it is only possible if soft determinism is false and the difference in the cause of the action it can be said that frankfurts view is inconsistent to soft determinism.
